



1) Sexual activity among teenagers has declined. The percentage of sexually active female teenagers went from 51% in 1988 to 43% 2010; and for teenage boys from 60% to 42% (Vital Health Stat 2011)
2) 19 milion new cases of STDs are reported every year. Young people, age 15–24 years represent only 25% of the sexually experienced population, they acquire nearly HALF of all new STDs. (Center For Disease Control, 2010)
3) A person who begins sexual activity in their teens, will have an average of FIFTEEN partners before they get married. (Journal of Adolescent Health, 1993 -- this study has not been repeated or updated.)
4) 80% of the time STDs have no symptoms. (Alan Guttmacher Institute, CDC 2010)
5) There is no conclusive evidence that condoms are effective at reducing transmission of the 3 most common STDs: HPV, Genital Herpes, Chlamydia. (National Institute for Health, 2001)
6) Condom Use: Good News, Bad News. 9th graders, (not HS seniors or college sutdents) have highest condom use. Condom use decreases with age, number of partners, and high-risk behaviors. (Youth Behavior Risk Survey 1999-2005)
7) AIDS researchers found that 40% of HIV+ patients had not told their sexual partners.

8) In 2006, 59% of pregnant teens gave birth, and 27% aborted. (U.S. Teenage Pregnancies, Births and Abortions: National and State Trends and Trends by Race and Ethnicity, 2010)
9) 43% of the women in the US will have an abortion in their lifetime. (US News & World report 1998 this study has not been repeated)
10) Induced abortions increase the risk of breast cancer by an average of 30%. (Breast Cancer Prevention Institute 2005, 2007 click here for summary PDF)
