A Parent’s Perspective on Positively Waiting
My wife and I experienced an introductory seminar by Karen Kropf at our church when our daughter was 14 years old. My first reaction was…”right” someone is going to help our kid with the sex talk…
Well, if you’ve never been to one of Karen’s seminars or lectures… then you have no idea how powerfully positive and true her each word was and still is to my wife and I but MOST IMPORTANTLY… our daughter, Lauren.
Lauren was deeply affected as we all were and to this date she can quote the experiences Karen presented and as if it were a reminder to an alcoholic not to drink and drive or a drug addict to kick the habit… it made our daughter recognize her self-importance and the beauty and dignity of abstinence rather than the peer-pressures that are usually egged on by kids her own age who have no clue or perspective.
To me, the most impressive thing about Positively Waiting… is their commitment in helping OUR kids. Their dedication to a goal each one of us as parents truly would like to see in an ideal world…And what’s wrong with an ideal world? Most people have given up… on themselves and their kids. Thank God Karen and Jim have not given up. And by every account they should have… what with the stupidity of some people and organizations who really do not understand their motives and goals…and the fact they hardly make a decent living doing this… I find it most admirable and a role-model for all of us who believe in right and wrong.
They are today’s HEROES in my book. And my family is extremely grateful for their efforts and progress in cleaning up the lives of kids who otherwise would not have the opportunity to get past high school without a pregnancy or sexual disease.
I’m a true supporter of POSITIVELY WAITING… and so should everyone with any kind of decency and concern about young adults.
